Motion Graphics - Analysis - MannyJBad

Effects that work well:
I'll mainly be talking about the simple color effect and how big of a difference it can cause. The two movies I chose, that shown this effect, are The Matrix and Limitless. The Matrix is a science fiction film filled with both real world and tech world. The movie starts out with the green logo opening and a green tint in the movie. What we perceive as the world we know, is now tinted with a slight green which gives us the relation towards the stories computer world. In Limitless the main character stumbles upon a drug that enhances the percentage of the brain that is usable. The world is a normal color but when he takes the pills everything is much brighter and illuminated.
Examples:

The matrix was filled with many other effects but Limitless had almost no effects. There's one transition effect that I really enjoy in the film that shows a quick passing of time but still allows you to see a glimpse of actions taken during the time span.

Effects that Do Not work well:
For this effect I also turn to The Matrix. Color is a subtle effect that I believe is always essential to a movie. CGI on the other hand tends to be a hit or miss. Over the years its become stronger and better. You can see how CGI has changed over the years by watching all the Harry Potter films. I think in The Matrix case, the cgi was a bit to underdeveloped and looked like a game character was fighting during the slow motion stops. Which later became a cliche and commonly used technique.
